Pounding Rain and Roaring Wind

Nanaimo Harbour in the rain.

Fall has entered with a Bang and a Crash!

Choppy waves cut at the shoreline and yacht club breakwater!

Defiant against the wind the lone branch hangs grimly on to its leaves.

From the sunny yesterday, punctuated with gentle showers; the last day of Summer has given way to the blustering and blowing of a true Fall Day.

The furnace is on and the house still feels damp.  It will take a day or two for the dampness to disappear.

Bouncing back off of the waves!
Bouncing back off of the waves!

We walked part of the Harbour Walk and around Maffeo Sutton Park.  It was windy and wet to start and quickly deteriorated to a flat-out downpour!  It was raining so hard that the raindrops bounced back up off of the water!

There were bright notes along the walk.  Lingering weeds, Clover and a lone California Poppy; some hardy Roses also stood up against the wind and rain.

Amazing shapes and colour against the grass.

Growing up against each other.

I was surprised by the presence of Mushrooms, both large and small in the grasses of Maffeo Sutton Park.  Very unexpected in such civilized surrounding’s!

This afternoon will be devoted to visiting, knitting and cooking.  I just pulled a Wacky Cake out of the oven.  Once it cools it will get iced with a fudgy chocolate icing!

Mushrooms both small and large were popping up everywhere.

Dinner for family and friends, Roast Chicken and the fixings – perfect for this damp, Early Fall day!

Happy Autumn to All

  1. Hi Lynette, I found your blog thru FB Buffalo wool Co. I love your designs and your views of the world. I am really curious about your name…Meek. My name is Meek and I have been doing some geneology research and now I seem to be finding Meeks everywhere;-).
I am a spinner in Denver and one day hope to spin laceweight nice enough to make one of your shawls…especially the latest cowboy fringed shawl.
    Thanks for your creativity.

    1. Good Morning Karen,

Thank-you for taking the time to comment and share your hopes with me. I cannot spin and won’t even try as I can not keep up with all the beautiful yarn I already have to play with!

Meek is my married name. My husbands family all came from Scotland to work the coal that was found here by the original settlers. He is the third generation of his family born here.

I hope that this answers some of your curiosity.

      Happy Knitting

      Lynette

      1. It seems all the Meeks were from Scotland or Ireland and ended up in the Mid Atlantic states. According to my research there are at least 4 clans of Meeks that have been identified so far. I am from a bunch that ended up in Nova Scotia from So. Carolina. Most were farmers because they were given land by the crown. My Grandfather looks very Scottish and of course loved his Old Crow. Salutations to you and your husband…I wonder if we are related.
I cant wait to make one of your designs. I especially like the tea cozys and the cowgirl shawl..
        take care
