My Square offerings are a little late for March and April.  I do apologize, I hope to get caught up this month.

Rolling Cables Square

This square has a garter stitch background and frame.  The  cables are fat and round and accented with lace fagotting in the centers of offset rows.  If you don’t want to add the lace, simply knit across the cable and eliminate the K2tog, YO.

Materials:  22grs Tracks, 3.25mm (#3 US) needle, markers and cable hook

Abbreviations:  M1 – (Make 1) lift the running yarn between the stitch just knit and the next stitch onto the left-hand needle and then knit into the back of the yarn to close the loop and make a new st.  K2tog – knit 2 sts together.   P2tog – purl 2 sts together.  pm – place marker.  YO – bring the yarn forward between your needles and then knit your next stitch as normal, allowing the yarn to loop over your right hand needle to form a new stitch.  slm – Slip the marker with your needle as you come to it.  C8F – (cable 8 front) slip next 4 stitches onto a cable needle and hold at the front of the work, knit the next 4 stitches from the left-hand needle, then knit the stitches from the cable needle.

Pattern – Cast-on 56 sts and knit 10 rows.

Rows 1 and 2 are set-up, rows 3 through 14 are the pattern repeat.

Row 1 – increase row – K6, pm, K2, K2tog, YO, K2, M1, K2, pm, K5, M1, K4, pm, K3, K2tog, YO, K5, pm, K5, M1, K4, pm, K3, K2tog, YO, K1 M1, K2, pm, K6 – 60 sts.

Row 2 – K6, slm, P2, P2tog, YO, P4, K1, slm, K1, P8, K1, slm, K1, P2, P2tog, YO, P4, K1, slm, K1, P8, K1, slm, K1, P2, P2tog, YO, P4, slm, K6.

Row 3 – K6, slm, K2, K2tog, YO, K5, slm, K10, slm, K3, K2tog, YO, K5, slm, K10, slm, K2, K2tog, YO, K4, slm, K6.

Row 4 – and all wrong side rows – K6, slm, P2, P2tog, YO, P4, K1, slm, K1, P8, K1, slm, K1, P2, P2tog, YO, P4, K1, slm, K1, P8, K1, slm, K1, P2, P2tog, YO, P4, slm, K6.

Row 5 – cable row 1 – K6, slm, K2, K2tog, YO, K5, slm, K1, C4F, K1, slm, K3, K2tog, YO, K5, slm, K1, C4F, K1, slm, K3, K2tog, YO, K4, slm, K6.

Rows 7 and 9 – as row 3.

Row 11 – cable row 2 – K6, slm C4F, K1, slm, K10, slm, K1, C4F, K1, slm, K10, slm, K1, C4F, slm, K6.

Row 13 – as row 3.

Repeat rows 3 to 14, 3 more times.

Row 51 – K6, slm, K2, K2tog, YO, K5, slm, K10, slm, K3, K2tog, YO, K5, slm, K10, slm, K2, K2tog, YO, K4, slm, K6.

Row 52 – decrease row – K6, slm, P2, P2tog, YO, P1, P2tog, P1, K1, slm, K1, P3, P2tog, P3, K1, slm, K1, P2, P2tog, YO, P4, K1, slm, K1, P3, P2tog, P3, K1, slm, K1, P2, P2tog, YO, P1, P2tog, P1, slm, K6 – 56 st.

Knit the next 10 rows.  Bind-off in Knit.  Weave in the ends and block to an 8 inch square.

Waving Lines Square

This square is worked in a smaller variation of the classic Feather and Fan stitch.  It is a framed pattern and the frame is worked in a small basket weave st.

Materials:  20grs Tracks, 3.25mm, #3 US needles,  and markers

Abbreviations:  YO – bring the yarn forward between your needles and then knit your next stitch as normal, allowing the yarn to loop over your right hand needle to form a new stitch.  K2tog – knit 2 sts together

Pattern – Cast-on 56 sts.

Frame

Rows 1 and 2 – *K2, P2; repeat from * to end of the row.

Rows 3 and 4 – *P2, K2: repeat from * to end of the row.

Repeat rows 1 to 4 once more.

Body

Row 1 (RS) – K2, P2, K2, pm, Knit to the last 6 sts, pm, P2, K2, P2.

Row 2 (WS) – K2, P2, K2, slm, Knit to the marker, slm, P2, K2, P2.

Row 3 – P2, K2, P2, slm, *(K2tog) 2 times, (YO, K1) 3 times, YO, (K2tog) 2 times, pm; repeat from * 4 times in total, slm, K2, P2, K2.

Row 4 – P2, K2, P2, slm, Purl to the last marker, (slipping markers as they appear), slm, K2, P2, K2.

Repeat the 4 row pattern 14 times.

Finish the body by working rows 1 and 2 once more.

Frame

Rows 1 and 2 – *P2, K2; repeat from * to the ends of the rows.

Rows 3 and 4 – *K2, P2; repeat from * to the ends of the rows.

Repeat rows 1 to 4 once more.  Bind-off in knit and weave in the ends and block to an 8 inch square.
