The Year of Making – BWC – Blanket Project

year_of_making_large2015 is the Year of Making for the Buffalo Wool Co.  A year of wonderful yarn – Tracks Sock Yarn – a Merino Buffalo Blend.  One hank a month sent to the doorstep of every participant.

This page is dedicated to the squares for a blanket.

The concept is simple.  Eight inch squares and put together they will make:

  • – Knit one a month – there will be a car seat blanket at the end of the project.
  • – Knit two a month – there will be a crib or lap blanket at the end of the project.
  • – Knit three or more a month – there will be a full size afghan at the end of the project.

Gauge is 28 sts and 36 rows to 4 inches in stockinet working with 3.25 mm (US #3) needles.

The first square!
The first square!

Diagonal Rib Square – weighs in at 22 grs.

Cast-on 56 sts

  • Row 1 – *(K2, P2); repeat from * to the end of the row.
  • Row 2 – *(K2, P2); repeat from * to the end of the row.
  • Row 3 – K1, *(P2, K2); repeat from *. end the last repeat with K1.
  • Row 4 – P1, *(K2, P2); repeat from *, end the last repeat with P1.
  • Row 5 – *(P2, K2); repeat from * to the end of the row.
  • Row 6 – *(P2, K2); repeat from * to the end of the row.
  • Row 7 – P1, *(K2, P2); repeat from *, end the last repeat P1.
  • Row 8 – K1, *(P2, K2); repeat from *, end the last repeat K1.

Repeat the 8 row pattern 9 times.  Cast-off evenly.  As this is a rib it will pull in slightly, but easily stretches to an eight inch square – if you worked it in the right gauge.

Have you got a favorite stitch pattern?  Why not create your own square and share it!  I will add to this page as more squares are created!

Happy Knitting
