Cold Weather on The Wet Coast

Even the Sun looks cold - trying to burn through the overcast sky.

Freezing

IMG_5065 (1024x989)Cold and clear or cold and overcast – it was cold enough to freeze water on any surface.  From the ground on up, dripping from branches, coating mosses, rose hips or ozing from broken tree limbs.

Gone to the birds.

Birds were everywhere today – on the branches, floating across the water and in the air.

Calm and Cold

Reflections on life.  Everything was being perfectly reflected on the waters around our walks.

Farewell to the Ice

Ok – I know that we could still be hit with a late storm – but I think that it is pretty safe to say that the bone cold we had won’t be back until next year!  While I love the interest snow and ice can add to photographs – I really  can only handle it for a short time – then I am more than happy to return to our normal mild and balmy weather!

We walked along the Millstream river in Bowen on Tuesday.  The air was thick with evaporation as the snow and ice were melting and evaporating into the very mild air – a balmy +7° Celsius, (approx. 44° F) that had replaced the deep freeze from the previous week.

Heavy moisture as the snow and ice start to evaporate - mutes the sounds and softens the edges.

Icy cold giving way.

Snow gives everything familiar a different look.  It intensifies the greens and chills the greys.  Everything is cold and sharp and not quite as friendly.

Tuesday afternoon it starting raining, and then pouring, by Wednesday morning the snow was gone, small hillocks here and there as reminders of the cold before.

I hope that you enjoy the walk!
