Vancouver Island Fibre Fest and Painting DewMoth

I was at the Vancouver Island Fibre Festival this last weekend and it was marvelous.  I watched the fashion show, featuring many of Lucy Neatby’s incredible designs – Lucy was the Highlighted Teacher – and many other garments from the Needle and Arts Center yarn store in Campbell River.  There are a great many talented knitters on this Island.

Before the Fashion Show started I spoke briefly about Rhiannon and the trip to Nashville, Beth modelled Rhiannon for me as I spoke.

Saturday afternoon I demonstrated painting lace knitting to an interested audience of knitter’s, quilters, weavers, and potters. There were also two very interested girls – they helped me pick colours!

As the hour progressed the audience would change and move.  Watching someone paint is something like watching paint dry – the audience came and went and watched the transformation of the shawl.

I did not take any pictures this time as I was working within a set deadline – no time to stop – but I did borrow a few pictures from Shelley Mackie.  She took a few pictures as I worked.

Sunday was the Twined Knitting Class – it was a small but dedicated group and everyone made great progress with their first mitten.  We were also a mobile group as the room we were in had issues with heat – but the center moved us down into the lounge where we were very comfortable!

Pretty colours all in a row.

Happy Viewing
