My First Attempt!

Finished - smooth side

This weekend I was playing with Nuno Felting – getting ready for a Summer Workshop that I will be teaching!

Nuno Felting is felting from the fiber – no knitting.  It involves Bubble Wrap, soapy water and the fiber!  What a lot of fun!

You start from some kind of base.  I created a wool and sparkly lattice – I could have used a fine silk or wool fabric base.  And then you add the fiber.  And build layer on layer of colour.  I am happy with my first attempt, now I have lots of ideas for my next attempts! I still have a much to learn, but I’ll have a great deal of fun learning it!

Happy Knitting

  1. I love the lattice effect, what a great idea.

Do you have any advice on taking pictures of long scarves or shawls? Do you focus on one part and let the rest be out of focus or try to get it all in? I want to try and take better photos, like some of the lovely fibre blogs I have seen, (sigh, wishes computer screen allowed touching!).

    Hope all is well!

    1. Hi Cita,

It would be great if touch was part of the experience! I am sure that someone is working on it somewhere!

thank-you for the comment – the lattice work was not my idea – I had seen it somewhere in my research, but I thought that it was very cool as well. I do need to try out some more idea’s. Have you seen the “Queen Bee’s” Blog. Her Nuno felting experience was very cool as well!

As for taking pictures – if you could only see how many I discard! LOL!! I try to get up high – I will stand on a chair – or if I am working in the front yard I can stand on my deck and take a picture looking down on the long straight pieces. Usually I focus on the end closest to me and then will post two pictures, one of each end. It does not always work out perfectly!

I only use my DSLR at home – it takes much better pictures than my old little pocket digital. I got the Canon DSLR when I needed to take very good pictures (that was my excuse for the purchase!) of my Submission to the Vogue Design Coompetition in 2010. What a difference it made in my pictures!

I hope that this answers some of your questions!

Life is great, busy as always!

      1. Thanks for the response. I hadn’t thought about standing on my deck, good idea. Sometimes I use my dad’s camara, which I used to get amazeing photos, but this past year it just doesn’t seem as good. It sat unused for a year, but that shouldn’t make a difference. The colours don’t come true, it won’t focus on wool very well. I have experimented with the different settings and the pictures look the same. I am puzzled because I have some great pictures I took a few years ago with the same machine. (it’s an olympus e-500) maybe it was good, but now not so, technology moves so fast!

        Thanks again!
        Cita 🙂
