The first weekend in May I will be heading up to Campbell River to teach at the Vancouver Island Fibre Festival.  I am joining Sally Melville and other teachers to share our love of all things fibre related.

I will be teaching about Beads and knitting with beads and I will be teaching about Thrumming!  I hope that you can join us!

Happy Knitting

Once Again, I Digress…

Digress, according to my dictionary, means to temporarily separate from the main path.  I believe that I digress a lot!  As a knitter and designer I am always being side-tracked by the next yarn and the new idea that is floating around in my head.  This can lead to some of my ideas being started and left behind in the dust – the East Coast Slippers being an example of such a digression.

East Coast Slippers

My apologies to those of you who are waiting for that pattern.  The East Coast Slipper pattern and my Vogue Knitting design came head to head and Vogue won.  Now that the dust has settled I will get back to that pattern and smooth out the rough edges.  Teaching the classes for that pattern pointed out a few area’s that lacked clarity and I didn’t have the time to go back and work them out.  Writing the pattern is always harder than knitting the samples.  I know what needs to be done, sharing the information is harder!

Why do we digress?  For most knitters, myself included, I think that we all suffer from OCD and AADD.  We compulsively touch, collect, are drawn to fibre, in all of its permutations, roving, yarn, swatches and finished garments!  There is a reason for the expression “Knitters Handshake” – we just want to touch!  Another reason for digression is that for many of us, once the project is on the needles, believe that the project is now as good as done and the next project beckons.

Motion and Colour!

When I worked on the Vogue project I was driven by the time line to get the project finished.  The fact that my design was so large and involved only made the deadline harder to meet, and my drive more intense and focused.  This not how I normally work and I am paying for it now.  I am in a major state of “Startitus”.  I have started about 6 projects in the last few weeks and added a new one last night! – Summer Waves, Leaf and Point Trio, Chinese Opera, Victorian Lace Cap, Modern Guernsey and now French Ribbons – We won’t talk about some of the others waiting patiently for me to get back to them!

It is the fault of that purple yarn!  It is the deep purple colour of French Lilacs!  As soon as I saw it I knew what I wanted to do.  It is an idea that has been floating around my head for quite a while, just waiting for the right yarn!  This Unisono was the right weight, colour and feel for the sweater that I could see in my “minds eye”.  I just had to start.  It doesn’t help that it is Spring, according to the calendar if not not the weather and all good things start in the Spring!

Happy Spring
