I had a busy day yesterday – researching the Summer Whimsey pattern.
Judy Gibson commented on my Facebook page that, due to the German title, Model – 36, and the hand-written symbols – she was positive that the Summer Whimsey pattern was designed by Erich Engeln originally.
This started me on a search to find out more!
There is a Ravelry page for some of his patterns. There are German editions still available as reprints through Lacis as well.
I even found a blog posting , the Cromulent Knitter, from 2006 about his patterns and most importantly a legend. The legend is a little late for me but useful for anyone else who wants to try out this pattern on their own!
I will be using this pattern for the Summer Painting Workshop this year. I will redo and modernize the chart for it! Painting this afternoon!
Oh and I also walked at Neck Point and was thoroughly soaked for my efforts – not many pictures either!
Happy Knitting
Lynette
Love it and can’t wait to see your painting.
This is lovely Lynnette. Will you be offering the pattern for sale?
Hi Lynne,
Thank-you! It will be for sale after the first workshop – most likely in July. But the links are all there if you want to tackle it in the original!
I enlarged the chart by 150% and started knitting!

Oh my goodness – I can see why you took the day to “research”. What beautiful patterns!
Summer Whimsey is gorgeous. The yarn looks so soft.
Hi Ria,
Aren’t they gorgeous patterns! I am just about to start the painting.
The yarn I used is the Jamieson’s Ultra – a Shetland/Merino blend. Soft and woolly – and better when blocked!

I absolutely love this design Lynette and I especially like it plain.
