Westwood Revisted

It has been a while since I walked Westwood – or even a part of Westwood.  Tom and Sophie walk it on a fairly regular basis during the week, when it is a little quieter.

Sunday morning we decided to walk the loop at the far end of the lake.

I was astonished by the amount of people, dogs, and bicycles circling the walkway around the lake.  There were family groups, dogs on and off of the leash, bicyclists and joggers all sharing the path.  Some were friendly and some were pre-occupied and all were enjoying the spectacular surroundings.

Westwood Lake itself was calm as glass, perfectly reflecting the forest surrounding it.  There were Canadian Geese and wild ducks at the end of the Lake and many more geese arriving as we walked around the loop.  We did not walk the whole lake, just the loop at the far end, about 3 klicks or so .

Sunday afternoon I baked a carrot cake.  I had never baked a carrot cake before; I never really liked carrot cake, it always seemed heavy to me.  That changed last week when Emily was on the hunt for a good carrot cake recipe – one without pineapple.

I have an old Canadian Living Cookbook.  It is one of my go to books when looking for recipes and I had been told that the carrot cake recipe was good.  I gave the recipe to Emily and she made it last week.  She brought some cake to work – it was good – in fact – it was great!  So I baked one for us.  Dad and the boys were coming to dinner and I always like to have something on hand for them!

My knitting is sporadic right now.  While I am still knitting constantly I am also moving from project to project and not really finishing anything.  I am in that limbo period between starting and finishing projects – when nothing seems even close to being done!  The wheels are spinning constantly, but nothing gets accomplished.

I have switched my focus from the sweater for me to a shawl for me.  The shawl is much more interesting knitting.  I worked on it this weekend and I am pleased with the results – only 5 more rounds and then I can start adding some beads.

The Retreat is only a month away!  It is amazing how fast time is going.  The retreat project is close to 1/3 done – I’ll keep working on it during the week.  The handout is almost complete – needs some finishing – just like the knitting!  LOL!  But I am feeling organized.  Should I say that out loud?  I could jinx it!

I love the forms that nature can create.

There is a box from the Buffalo Wool Co. on its way here.  It contains yarns, buttons and leather!  I can see some new projects in my future!

I hope that you have some future plans and goals.  Are you knitting, or reading or walking?  Do you suffer from the Winter Blues?  Or are you just too busy to think about them?

Happy Knitting

Lynette
