Steel Grey

It was a cold, hard morning walk.

There were a pair of eagles soaring overhead, wings still, just moving from one air current to the next.
There were a pair of eagles soaring overhead, wings still, just moving from one air current to the next.

The rain and wind were blowing in from the South and East, and they were cold.  Only the eagles soaring overhead seemed unaffected by the weather.

Branches all around us were dripping with water.  The leaves seemed unusually vibrant.

It wasn’t a very long walk.  Only long enough to awaken every sense to the world around us.

The branches were dripping with both water and leaves.

Happy Day

On any Given Sunday!

Last Sunday we walked at Morrel Sanctuary.

Stellar Jay approaching the feeding station!
Stellar Jay approaching the feeding station!

As we started up the path, we got to watch a small drama being played out on the side of a red Cedar.  Please excuse the blurriness of some of the pictures – things were happening fast!

Spotted!....Rats foiled again!
Spotted!….Rats foiled again!

Through out the Sanctuary there are wooden feeding stations, filled with seeds and grains for the birds and squirrels.

On this Sunday and at this station a squirrel, one of the little brown squirrels, was in charge.

Victorious!
Victorious!

As we watched the squirrel chased off a Stellar Jay.  The Jay just dropped down to the basement to help himself to the seeds on the ground.

Basement scraps for the Jay.
Basement scraps for the Jay.

And then a Varied Thrush had gall enough to land on top of the feeder.  The squirrel made short work of him.

The Squirrel remained victorious, until I got too close.

I got a little too close!
I got a little too close!

Happy Viewing
