On our walk around the Estuary yesterday morning we saw this unusual flowering plant. It is a type of Phacelia. It does grow on Vancouver Island, but usually only above 1500m. These plants were right by the road on the edge of the park.
It wasn’t just a single plant – it was quite a good spread of plants – they had been there for quite a while!
The leaves are large and like the stems seem to be covered in a fine silky “hair”. Gorgeous.
There are over 200 varieties of Phacelia. They are all beautiful.
Happy Viewing

I may be wrong, and I can’t say I actually am familiar with phacelia, but this looks like comfrey to me from your photos. Check out google images for comfrey, and see if it is phacelia. I googled them, but there aren’t very many images. I would be curious to know, but regardless, wonderful photos, Lynette.
Hi Maureen,
I think that you might be right. This looks like comfrey. It is closer to that than to the Phacelia, though the curling flower stems are very similar! Thanks
