The lilac’s are in bloom right now – and they are gorgeous!!
My two lilac bushes survived the fence rebuild. One has produced great bunches of the tiny flowers, the other, not so many. You can see lilac trees and bushes all over town. It is wonderful – the scent is everywhere, even in the store right now!
Except for work – all I have been doing is knitting. I have a very tight deadline for a couple of projects. Vogue is now more than half done, after two false starts, three was definitely the charm. The Rowan project was really stalled but I now have some help with the finishing, Thank-you Fiona. I now feel that my knitting life is under control so I can take a moment to blog! Why is there never enough time in the day to do what we think we should be able to do!!
I am working on expanding my horizons for my designs. One of my limitations as a designer was my inability to share my idea’s without creating them first. I could never get the hang of drawing a picture that looked even close to what I saw in my head. So I branched out and drew a picture of the lace shell for the painting class. It almost looks like what it is supposed to look like!
I joined Pinterest. It looks like a very interesting sight, especially if you are a creative type of person. So many idea’s in so many fields. Today I saw; French Onion Soup Grilled Sandwiches. I want to make these; a butterfly’s wing. I want to paint it and so many other interesting images – have you ever heard of Glass Corn, real corn that looks like beautifully coloured glass beads!
There are so many creative people around us. It is wonderful that there are so many ways to share and expand our own creativity.
How do you celebrate your creativity? Are you a knitter or designer, a cook or gardener, a builder or painter? We are all creative in one way or another. I think that it is our brains’ way of taking time off and exploring other aspects of our personalities. I have discovered a love of photography through my knitting and designing. Have you discovered new avenues of creativity by expanding on something that you already do?
This year, since we have built the new fence and are basically starting our garden from scratch, I am expanding my somewhat limited gardening skills. I have always loved flowers and gardens, but never really have created one beyond my little herb garden – now I have the whole backyard to work with!
We planted a small Dogwood, a Ruth Ellen Dogwood this weekend. It went in the corner under our neighbours big cedar trees. The soil is acidic and it is shaded most of the day. Dogwoods are great companion trees and love to be overhung by other trees. Or so I have been told! I want to surround the tree with Hostas, Columbine, Bleeding Hearts and some Lily of the Valley.
The tree has come to have special significance for us. Ruth was Tom’s mum and Ellen was his grandmother. Sometime things are meant to be!
Two other plants survived the new fence. A large honeysuckle vine and a gorgeous Peony. They are both budding right now. The honeysuckle in particular is just covered in buds. I can hope to see many Hummingbirds arrive when they open.
A friend has just gifted me with some Poppy seeds from her garden, some more hostas, small this time and a beautiful, big potted Rosemary bush. The Poppy is a double petal variety. It will be purple and will look something like a Peony. I can hardly wait to see them grow.
