There is no quicker way to feeling “stupid” than arguing with a computer – you will almost always lose! I’ve been having that experience this morning.
I had decided to do some work on my blog. I got rid of the advertisements, quick and easy for a small fee, no problem! Then I decided that I would like to try to add some interest with a couple of new fonts, something that looks more casual and flowing than the regular typeface. Signed up, no problem, then I tried to load a font, apparently I have a theme that is not font enabled and I would need to speak computer to make it work. I do not speak computer. Apparently I can’t even find where to speak computer, because if I could do that I could enable the font! I have spent the morning approaching the problem from many different angles with no success at all! Not even a glimmer. I’ll have to call in reinforcements! If you see a change in the type you’ll know that I have conquered the computer, with extra troops mind you, but the success will outweigh the cost!!
Unlike today, yesterday was a great day! It is still early today and I am sure that it will get better, but today is also laundry day, cleaning day etc…. Laundry is well underway, loads in the washer and drier: I’ve cut up the fruit for the crisp for dessert tonight and it looks like I’ll have most of the rest of my work done by noon! Please note, only the really necessary work gets done – I would rather be knitting!
I did some shopping yesterday morning. I found a sling back style camera bag for my trip to Whistler – I leave a week tomorrow! I had been looking for a bag that could keep my equipment safe as I zip-lined and climbed around in tree-tops! I want to bring it all and take lots of pictures. I also found a polarizing lens for the camera. This acts like sunglasses for your camera, it cuts back on glare and sharpens the colours when the light is strong. A really bright day can wash out your colour. So I had to try it out, the results are shown in the pictures of the flowers! Please note: these are the only flowers left in my garden that the deer haven’t eaten yet – these and the rhododendrons out front!
Then I had lunch with my father, just the two of us. It went great. I don’t know how you feel around your father, but I often feel like the child I used to be. Conversations are hard and not always on the topics you would really like to talk about, but yesterday was different. We had a real conversation, as adults, I think that new patterns are being set! Maybe I’ve finally grown up!
In the afternoon I got some real work done on the new project for painting. It is tentatively called Painted butterfly’s and utilises several lace patterns from Barbara Walker’s Charted Knitting Patterns. One of the patterns reminds me of butterfly’s, and once painted, could really be seen as such – I hope!
The beads are the same colour as the yarn at the moment, but once the yarn is painted, they should stand out much better. Since I was using just one colour of beads I got to play with my bead spinner, a wonderful tool, for loading large amounts of beads onto your yarn in a very short period of time. Over 1000 beads went on in about 20 minutes! It is a great time saver when working with only one colour of bead.
When using it, just make sure that you have lots of beads – the more beads in the dish the better (faster) it loads the beads onto the beading hook.
In the evening we went for a walk around Maffeo-Sutton Park and along the waterfront area, what a gorgeous day it ended up being!
Today is looking pretty good as well. If the weather holds we will try someplace new for a walk – or maybe we will stay home and I will continue to knit!
I should be working on the Helix Scarf – I am supposed to have it done for next weekend! Instead I made a deal with myself – I will work on it all week – But first – I really wanted to see if my ideas for this shawl would come together. And I am really seeing it happen!
